Marcus Espey

Marcus W. Espey, 56, of Fayette, died Sunday, March 15, 2015, at his home in Fayette.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the Fayette Community Church with Pastor Carl Tenney officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Wednesday, March 18th at the church and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette is assisting the Espey family.                              

Marcus William, son of Elmer K. and Edna Marie Jungers Espey, was born April 16, 1958, at Estherville, Iowa. After moving with his family to Spencer, he graduated from Spencer High School, and later from Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville. On May 21, 1983, he was united in marriage with Tammy Johnson at Napoleon, Missouri. Marcus has been employed for many years by the State of Iowa as an IT specialist II. He also enjoyed computers in his leisure time, as well as fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, target shooting, but most of all enjoyed the time spent with his grandbabies.

In addition to his wife, Tammy of Fayette, he is survived by three daughters, Lindsey Espey of Waterloo, Ashley (Anthony) Reisner of Hazelton, and Rebecca (Joshua) Tegeler of Maynard; three grandchildren, Aubree Espey, Lydia Tegeler, and Jaden Espey; two brothers, Elmer “Butch” (Peggy) Espey of Byron, Minnesota and Joseph Espey of Spencer; two sisters, Helen Walker of Spencer and Shirley (Eldon) Gillmore of Martelle; and several nieces and nephews.

Marcus was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn brother, Gerald Joseph; and his wife’s parents, David and Mary Johnson.

Mark will be greatly missed at DHS. He was a kind, compassionate man with the gift of humor. He loved his family and smiled from ear to ear as he talked about his grandchildren. My condolences to all his loved ones.

I worked with Mark for many years at DHS. I knew I could call him and get help with my computer problems. He would tease me but then would get the problem rectified. So sorry for your loss.

You have my sympathy in the loss of Mark. I worked closely with Mark when we were located at 501 Sycamore in Waterloo. He shared many stories of the kids growing up and the dog that you had at that time. I am sorry for your loss. RIP Mark.
